Ambassador Nguyen Nguyet Nga, Senior Advisor of the National Secretariat of ASEAN 2020, said this year the world is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action for advancing women’s rights and five years of working toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 

She described the event as a turning point of ASEAN in a new period with a more practical level, which confirms Vietnam’s leadership role.

Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam Anna Mawe spoke highly of Vietnam’s initiative and role in organizing the online event on gender equality at the ASEAN Summit, where many female leaders are invited as special guests.

She said she expects that the idea will be replicated more widely as Vietnam is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
