Syria is likely to meet the deadline on June 30 to remove its most poisonous chemical agents. Earlier, Syria missed a December 31 deadline to destroy its dangerous chemical weapons under an agreement between Russia and the US to prevent an attack from the US. Besides, Damascus’s failure to remove around 700 tons of most dangerous chemical weapons and 500 tones of less-dangerous chemical ones out of the country on February 5th has raised the concern that Syria may miss the deadline of June 30. The Russian ambassador’s statement came as Syrian government and the opposition are carrying out the 2nd round of peace talks in Geneva, Switzerland. No progress has been made at the negotiation as Syrian government did not agree on the agenda for the ongoing talks and criticized the opposition for refusing the discussion on terrorism.
