Cuban ambassador calls Mar. 15 election a crucial step propelling Vietnam into new era

(VOVWORLD) -The upcoming election for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term scheduled for March 15th, is a crucial step in realizing the strategic goals of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, leading Vietnam into a new era of development, said Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes.

In an interview with a Vietnam News Agency reporter prior to the election, Ambassador Fuentes expressed his admiration for the meticulous preparation process, especially the extensive public consultation and rigorous personnel selection. The upcoming election is a decisive step in consolidating the democratic political system and enhancing leadership capacity in the new era, he said.

According to the Cuban diplomat, this election has significant characteristics as it takes place when Vietnam has just completed the reorganization and merger of provincial and commune-level administrative units. The ambassador said he hopes that after the new elected bodies are established, the 16th National Assembly will play a central role in implementing the three strategic breakthroughs set forth by the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The three strategic breakthroughs are institutional reform, human resource development, and infrastructure development.

Regarding inter-parliamentary relations, Ambassador Fuentes said he believes that the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam will create new vitality for the special traditional cooperation between the two countries, helping the two nations to draw closer together in sharing legislative and social management experiences.
