He emphasized that such dialogue must be conducted on the basis of sovereign equality, mutual respect, principles of international law, mutual benefit, without interference in internal affairs.

Diaz-Canel noted as history has shown, for US-Cuba relations to progress, they must be based on international law rather than on hostility, threats, and economic coercion.

On the same day, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that her government is prepared to act as an intermediary to promote dialogue between the US and Cuba, provided both sides agree.

These statements were made amid new regional developments affecting relations between Washington and Havana, particularly following the US’s arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. President Donald Trump on Monday called on Cuba to quickly “reach a deal” with the US, warning that oil supplies and financial flows from Venezuela to Cuba could be cut off.
