According to the editorial, this is the second visit to Cuba by a US President since President Calvin Coolidge came in 1928 and the first visit of a US President to “a Cuba in full possession of sovereignty and with a Revolution in power.”

It said President Obama "will be welcomed by the government and people of Cuba with the hospitality they are known for.”

The piece said this is an opportunity for Mr. Obama to "learn firsthand about a nation committed to its economic and social development, and the improvement of its people's well-being" despite the hardships caused by US sanctions.

It reiterated the prerequisites for the normalization of bilateral relations: eliminate the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade, return to Cuba the occupied territory at Guantanamo Bay, and abandon any plan to foment internal political opposition in Cuba.
