The death toll rose to 8. The South Korean Foreign Ministry said 15 countries have banned or restricted entry of South Korean nationals or foreigners who have been to South Korea in response to the rising number of COVID-19 infections there.
A 7th person infected with the coronavirus has died in Italy, as the government battles to contain Europe's worst outbreak of the epidemic. More than 220 people have come down with the virus since Friday, the majority of them in the wealthy regions of Lombardy and Veneto.
Iran’s Health Ministry said the total number of infections rose to 61, while deaths stood at 12. Iraq, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman on Monday reported their first infections from the virus.
Mainland China reported 508 new cases on Monday.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on all countries to accept their responsibility for combating COVID-19. He said the WHO needs 675 million USD to fight the epidemic.
