The Head of the OSCE, Martin Saydik, said this was the outcome of the group’s regular meeting held in Minsk, Belarus, on Wednesday. He said the meeting took place after a long period of interruption with a series of major events including the Berlin ministerial meeting of the Normandy Four group (Russia, Ukraine, Germany, France) last Wednesday where leaders of the countries agreed on a peace roadmap to address the crisis in Eastern Ukraine.
Saydik said that the sub-group on security discussed the implementation of the framework agreement from 21 September to establish pilot security zones at three sites along the line of contact between the parties.
He said the parties had exchanged proposals for a new security zone in the Donbass, in particular, was discussed at the Berlin meeting in the Normandy format.
The special representative of the head of the OSCE noted that the contact group completely supports a full and comprehensive cease-fire, considering it a decisive factor towards building trust among the parties.
