(VOVworld) – A conference took place in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa province on Wednesday to review the 5 years since the Prime Minister’s directive to ensure the safety of fishermen catching seafood in the country’s territorial waters, especially offshore fishing and flotilla fishing boats. To date, almost every Vietnamese fishing boat is registered and offshore vessels have been equipped with communications equipment. Almost 140,000 fishermen have registered to become members of 3,400 fishing flotillas. Vu Van Tam, Director General of the General Department of Seafood and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said ‘Setting up flotillas for offshore fishing activities is essential. The participants at the meeting agreed that the current policy on registration, and mechanisms relating to fishing flotillas are the biggest hurdle that needs to be revised’.
