High on the agenda were the current developments in the East Sea, the Party and government’s stance and policy on national maritime sovereignty, ways to handle the East Sea tension, and the struggle of Vietnam’s law enforcement agencies to protect maritime sovereignty.
The main content of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and the directions for communications through the mass media and grassroots information system were also introduced. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan says:
“Our media and information and communication departments have proven mature in their stories and the direction of their activities. The media should increase the broadcast of international public opinion about the issue, and publicize the diplomatic and public struggles to assert the issue of the nation’s territorial waters.”
