Receiving Ambassador Kairat Sarybay, Executive Director of CICA’s Secretariat, in Hanoi on Friday, President Phuc praised the role of Kazakhstan as one of the founding countries of CICA, which was established 30 years ago.

Discussing the regional situation, the President emphasized that CICA needs to continue to effectively promote its credo, purposes and operating principles, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, equality, and mutual respect, non-threat or non-use of force, peaceful settlement of disputes, non-interference in internal affairs, multilateral cooperation, and compliance with international law and the UN Charter.

President Phuc said he hopes that CICA will support the stance of ASEAN and Vietnam in order to ensure peace, safety and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea, and settle disputes by peaceful means on the basis of respect for international law, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) and the UN Charter.

The CICA Executive Director delivered a letter from Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev inviting President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to attend the CICA Summit in Kazakhstan this October.
