(VOVworld) – Chinese police sealed off a train station on Thursday in the northwestern city of Lanzhou after detecting suspected explosives. Chinese security forces cordoned off the surrounding area. The train station was reopened after police confirmed that the suspicious item was not a bomb.

A number of attacks targeting public places have recently occurred in China. An explosion in an open-air market in Urumqi, a predominantly Muslim Uighur city in Xinjiang province, killed 31 people and injured 90. The attack took place one day after the Xinjiang Regional Higher People's Court sentenced 39 people to prison after for crimes including organizing and leading terrorist groups, inciting ethnic hatred, ethnic discrimination, and illegal manufacturing of guns. A train station attack in Urumqi last month killed 3 people and wounded 79. Other attacks occurred in Kunming, Kuang-chou, and Beijing.
