(VOVworld) - Vietnam has published many valid pieces of evidence showing its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, but China’s historical documents are baseless, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Doan Xuan Hung this week. In an article published in the Japanese newspaper “Yomiuri Shimbun” this week, Ambassador Hung said China’s illegal placement of oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 within the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of Vietnam seriously violated Vietnam's sovereignty, the UN Charter, the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) signed by China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Hung said the Vietnamese government values its relations with China but will resolutely use all peaceful means allowed by international law to protect its territorial sovereignty and maintain peace and justice. He added that Vietnam hopes that people from all around the world, including the Japanese, will continue to support the Vietnamese people.
