At a press conference on Tuesday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that, as a close neighbor, China is closely following the situation on the peninsula and relations between the two Koreas.

She said China is committed to maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula, and its stance of promoting a political settlement of any conflict remains unchanged. She said she hopes all parties will work together to achieve the goal of stability.

Earlier, North Korea accused South Korea of sending propaganda drones to Pyongyang, calling it a violation of sovereignty and a threat to its security.

On Tuesday North Korea blew up sections of inter-Korean roads and rail lines on its side of the heavily fortified border between the two Koreas. Seoul condemned the action as a violation of inter-Korean agreements and fired warning shots toward the demarcation line in response.
