(VOVworld) – A hotline between mainland China and Taiwan began operating on Wednesday.  The step was agreed during a historic meeting between President Xi Jinping and Taiwan leader counterpart Ma Ying-jeou in Singapore last month.

At the meeting, Ma suggested both sides expand dialogue and cooperation and operate a hotline between Beijing’s Taiwan Affairs Office and Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council. President Xi said no force could divide the Taiwan Strait and both sides should identify orientations for future development of relations.
