(VOVworld) – Xinhua reported that 13 defendants had committed terrorism and violent activities in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, north-western China, and were sentenced to death on Monday.

Chinese state media showed several prisoners on trial on Monday for the Tiananmen crash.

Courts in districts of Aksu, Turpan, and Hotan convicted the defendants to death for terrorism, murder, arson, robbery, and the transportation, storing, and production of illegal explosives. The criminals were also charged of killing policemen, civilians, and authority officials. The People’s Court of Urumqi – the capital of the autonomous region – also sentenced 3 defendants to death and 5 other defendants to prison for the attack last October in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. The defendants were convicted for terrorist activities and threatening public security.
