China's special representative for the Korean Peninsula, Wu Dawei, met with Ri Yong-Ho, Vice Foreign Minister of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), in Beijing on Monday to discuss how to maintain the peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and exchange their views on the multilateral talks. The meeting follows international concern over Pyongyang’s plan to launch a satellite. Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said China has taken note of the DPRK’s satellite launch plan and called on all parties to exercise restraint. Vice Minister Ri stressed that the launching of the satellite is a separate issue from the recent negotiations between his country and the US, and is part of the DPRK’s right to develop a space program.
