(VOVWORLD) - China on Tuesday demanded that Lithuania withdraw its ambassador in Beijing and said it will recall China's envoy to Vilnius in a row over Lithuania  allowing Taiwan (China) to open a representative office there under its own name.

China’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday denounced the decision as “seriously undermining China’s sovereignty.” China urges Lithuania to immediately rectify its poor decision, take concrete steps to undo the damage, and not go any further down this path, the Ministry said on its website.

Taiwan (China) announced its new mission in Lithuania last month, saying it would be called the Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania, the first time the island's name has been used for one of its offices in Europe, as normally the name Taipei is used. Earlier this year, Lithuania announced its plan to open an office in Taiwan (China) in disregard of China’s aggressive reaction.
