(VOVworld)- French President Francois Hollande and world leaders including the Presidents from the US and Russia and British Queen Elizabeth II joined the D-Day 70th anniversary. They gathered at Sword Beach, one of five landing points for Allied troops.

The landings were the first stage of the invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. Within 11 months Nazi Germany was defeated, as Soviet armies swept in from the east and liberated Europe. Veterans were specially welcomed in Normandy, where 20,000 security officers were mobilized.
