Mr. Phuc noted that the economic development of the central region is of paramount importance not only for its 14 localities stretching from Thanh Hoa to Binh Thuan but also for Vietnam’s development as a whole. The central key economic region consists of Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh.
“The central region holds an important position in economics, defense and security for the whole country. The development of the central region is not simply an endeavor concerning its 14 provinces and cities, but all of Vietnam,” Mr. Phuc said.
With a coastline of 1,900km, the central region boasts numerous advantages for maritime economic development. It also has great potential for heavy industry, oil and gas, wind and solar energy. The region’s contributions to Vietnam’s overall growth increased to more than 19 percent last year.
