(VOVWORLD) - Despite a resurgence of COVID-19, Vietnam’s image was boosted in its rotating role as a member of the UN Security Council and presidency in April 2021, and ability to steer signature events and peace-building efforts, according to an article released Monday by Canada-based international intelligence publication Geopolitical Monitor.

The article said that Vietnam’s ascendancy in international security has been observed in its role hosting the 2017 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, the 2019 Hanoi Summit, and a meeting bringing together North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump.

Vietnam’s repositioning as a middle power and evolving role as a peace builder demonstrates the nation’s growing confidence to play key mediation roles in ASEAN on regional security issues, it added.

According to the article, Vietnam is pledging to stake its own future to making proactive and responsible contributions to meet the United Nations peacekeeping charter, to uphold international law, and to achieve sustainable development goals.
