The new military aid brings the total amount that Canada has committed to Ukraine since last year to more than 9.5 billion CAD, including an extended loan of 2.4 billion CAD in March.

The new aid package will supply Ukraine with 50 armored vehicles. Ottawa would also send trainers to help Ukrainian pilots on western F-16 fighter jets, Trudeau said. At the meeting, Trudeau and Zelenskyy also signed the modernized Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA) to bolster the Canada-Ukraine economic ties.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy arrived in Canada on Thursday (local time) in an unpublicized visit to the country, which is also his first since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
