At a meeting with local authorities in Prey Veng province, Prime Minister Hun Sen said China has twice released water into the Mekong and asked Beijing to continue the action. Prime Minister Hun Sen also called on Cambodian farmers to conserve water because the annual rainy season, which usually begins in early May, will be delayed until mid-July because of El Nino. Some ponds, lakes, canals, and reservoirs have already dried up, forcing officials to find other sources of water and pump it into reservoirs for daily consumption.
