The painting’s origin is associated with the Overseas Vietnamese headquarters in Paris and the 1973 Paris Peace Accords that put an end to the Vietnam War and restored peace in Vietnam. Nguyen Thanh Tong is former Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese People’s Association in France:"The partially burnt painting records dramatic events of a historic period. After 1975 reactionaries came here to destroy the headquarters, considered a venue for supporters of the Vietnam resistance war against American aggressors. The painting of President Ho Chi Minh was saved from fire on that day".Every May 19th, overseas Vietnamese in France gather at their headquarters in Paris to mark President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday and pay tribute to the great Vietnamese leader.
