Campaigners for the union welcomed the Queen's remarks as a reminder of the monumental decision facing voters in Scotland. British Prime Minister David Cameron used his final visit to Scotland on Monday to persuade voters to remain in the UK, stating that a yes vote will lead to a split forever. According to the British Prime Minister’s Palace, Cameron will also release a positive message about the benefits of remaining in the UK.
A series of opinion polls show the two campaigns running neck and neck. An ‘Opinium poll’ for The Observer found the No side six points ahead -53% to 47%. A ‘Panelbase poll’ for The Sunday Times put the two campaigns two points apart - 51% No and 49% Yes.
