(VOVWORLD) - It has been three years since the day they were found to have contracted COVID-19 on a flight from the UK to Vietnam, the British couple, Mr. Dixon John Garth and Ms. Shan Ellison Barker, on Wednesday returned to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases to thank the doctors and nurses who treated them.

Visiting the intensive care unit, the British couple expressed their happiness to see the faces of the doctors and nurses, who a COVID patient could not see during the treatment as medical staff must wear protective gears.

Three years ago, Garth suffered from severe respiratory failure, was ventilated and treated in COVID-19 intensive care unit at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases. His wife also contracted COVID-19 but her condition was milder.

On the night of April 13, 2020, Garth was given the all-clear and boarded a plane to return to the UK with his wife.
