Speaking to reporters, Brazilian Environment Minister Marina Silva said in a statement expected to be adopted at the G20 Summit taking place on Monday and Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, the host country Brazil is facing opposition from some economies on key agenda, especially the imposition of taxes on the super-rich.
But she stressed that despite the opposition, the Brazilian government is ready to “work until the last minute” to seek consensus among G20 members.
Minister Silva said that under Brazil's chair over the past year, the G20 has achieved major progress, at least at the ministerial level, on reforming multilateral development banks, financing climate change mitigation, and making the rich pay a more fair share of taxes.
