Azerbaijan, Turkey conduct parliamentary elections

(VOVworld) – Polls opened Sunday in Azerbaijan in a parliamentary election. The Central Election Commission said over 5.9 million people are eligible to vote and there are more than 5,500 polls nationwide. Around 63,000 domestic observers and 503 international observers are supervising the election. A total of 13 parties and one bloc are standing for the 125-seat, single-house parliament to be elected for a five-year term on the first Sunday of November.

Turkey is heading to polls for a second time in five months amid instability spilling over from neighboring Syria and renewed tensions over the 30-year-old Kurdish conflict. More than 54 million people are registered to vote at 175,000 stations on Sunday. Turkish authorities has strengthened securities during its elections, especially areas where is home to Kurdish people.
