At Tuesday’s ceremony to announce the funding in Can Tho city, Australian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Sarah Hooper said that the program, to be implemented from 2023 to 2025, aims to help women’s startups in agriculture adapt to climate change, which will help women develop production and increase their income.

Hooper said Australia will promote cooperation with Can Tho in high-tech agriculture through the Australian International Agricultural Research Centre. Tran Viet Truong, Chairman of the Can Tho municipal People’s Committee, said that, as Can Tho gives high priority to using technology to improve farming and agricultural processing, it’s ready to welcome and help Australian businesses explore investment opportunities in this field.

He said Can Tho city and Mekong Delta provinces are glad the climate change adaptation partnership program is implemented in the region to promote climate adaptation activities in agricultural trading for women-led models.

“The program is expected to bring greater income opportunities and other benefits to women in the region. The move will also develop the friendship between the Mekong Delta provinces and Australian partners," said Truong.

Since 2000, the Australian Government has invested 650 million AUD or 427 million USD in the Mekong Delta region to improve infrastructure and promote investment attraction, human resources, and innovation.
