ASEAN works to create drug-free Community

(VOVWORLD) - National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong reiterated that Vietnam’s laws and policies are consistent with ASEAN’s roadmap to build a drug-free ASEAN Community.

Ms. Phong told an onine meeting of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Advisory Council on Monday that Vietnam has been active in the global war on drugs.

“The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly is working to help build a united and adaptive ASEAN in the fight against drugs. Anti-drug strategies should expand rehabilitation activities to help drug users integrate into the community and live a drug-free life,” said Ms. Phong.

Inshik Sim, UNODC Illicit Drugs Analyst, said drug traffickers in Southeast Asia earned an estimated 71 billion USD a year.
