In his address, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highlighted the significance of the meeting saying it outlines cooperation between ASEAN and China to overcome current difficulties, contain the epidemic, ensure a peaceful life for the people, and maintain a stable environment for recovery and development. Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang said despite the pandemic, trade between ASEAN and China has increased and ASEAN has become China’s largest partner with two-way trade in the first three months of 2020 increasing 70%. He said stronger bilateral ties in East Asia will contribute to increasing global growth. China and ASEAN upheld peace in the region and dialogue and consultative in settling disputes between countries. The Chinese Prime Minister reiterated his pledge to stay united with ASEAN and expressed his hope that the two sides will find more effective ways to boost bilateral cooperation.
