Advisory Council recommends approval of Moderna, Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccines

(VOVWORLD) - The Advisory Council for the Registration and Circulation of Drugs and Medicinal Ingredients  recommends that the Health Ministry approve for use in Vietnam the COVID-19 vaccines by the Moderna Company in the US and Russia’s JSC Generium Company.

Early this month, the Ministry approved the UK’s AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The first batch, 110,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, arrived in Vietnam on Wednesday and inoculations will start early next month. 1.2 million additional doses will arrive in late March. 

Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said the Ministry will secure 90 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from multiple sources this year. Vietnam expects to produce its own vaccines by next year, he said.
