The Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee, Le Thanh Hai, expressed gratitude for the physicians’ contributions to the medical sector and national development. Marking the occasion, Ho Chi Minh city leaders visited former heads of hospitals in the area.

The southern province of Soc Trang also held a conference to review the operation of the medical sector in the period between 2011 and 2015. According to reports at the conference, so far, 82 of 109 communes, districts and towns in Soc Trang have met national medical standards. Preventive measures have been well implemented, containing dangerous diseases and reducing infection rates. Medical treatment using health insurance operates well, with 90 percent of patients using insurance cards. Truong Hoai Phong, Director of Soc Trang province’s Department of Health, explained the future tasks for the medical sector: “The province’s medical sector will focus on preventing diseases and epidemics, food poisoning and providing medical treatment to health insurance card holders, poor and ethnic people. The sector will also focus on building and improving medical facilities as part of the new rural development program”.

He urged greater efforts to be made in the field of public healthcare: “The healthcare sector should work hard to fulfill the targets set for this year. It should work closely with the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education on the two projects reviewing public healthcare and population and family planning over the last 10 years, which will be submitted to the Party Secretariat.”
