Abe’s approval climbs ahead of LDP election

(VOVWORLD) - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has the lead in the September election for president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) with 35% support, according to the latest public opinion poll by Nikkei.

Abe is followed by Chief Deputy Secretary-General Shinjiro Koizumi with 18% and former Secretary-General Shigeru Ishiba at 17%. Fumio Kishida, Chairman of the LDP’s Policy Research Council, secured 5% while Minister of Foreign Affairs Taro Kono and Minister of Internal Affairs Seiko Noda each have 4% support.
