9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians concludes

(VOVWORLD) - The Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians continues to affirm the importance of young parliamentarians and young people in carrying out the goals and tasks set by the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said at the closing session of the Conference on Saturday in Hanoi.

“I kindly ask the IPU Secretariat and all IPU member parliaments to share the outcomes of this conference at the upcoming UN Summit on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in New York," said Chairman Hue.

"I also urge the IPU and its member parliaments to put the Conference Statement into action and create effective mechanisms for collaboration and mutual support, particularly between developed and developing nations in the realms of digital transformation and innovation,” he noted. 

IPU President Duarte Pacheco congratulated the National Assembly of Vietnam on successfully hosting the Conference and highlighted the need for the younger generation to create changes, champion science and innovation, foster creativity, allocate more resources to technology, enhance digital literacy, and develop effective responses to safeguard the environment and adapt to climate change.

The IPU will always support young parliamentarians to take concrete steps in fulfilling their commitments, he said.

The Conference adopted a statement on “The role of youth in accelerating the achievement of the SDGs through digital transformation and innovation” the first of its kind throughout the 9 editions of the gathering.
