Morocco has deployed ambulances, rescue crews, and soldiers to the region to assist emergency response efforts. Rescue workers have made their way to the hardest-hit areas of Marrakech, Al Haouz, and Taroudant, but there are many villages in remote and inaccessible mountain regions where damaged roads have complicated rescue efforts.
Hundreds of tons of relief aid have been delivered to the earthquake-hit areas. Moroccan authorities have said they will continue mobilizing all available resources to rescue and search for survivors.
Meanwhile, as many as 3,000 people are dead and 10,000 are missing after massive floods overwhelmed parts of eastern Libya on Sunday. The number of deaths and injuries is expected to increase sharply in the coming days. Rescue work is under way. Emergency workers have recovered hundreds of bodies from the wreckage in Derna. The floods damaged or destroyed many access roads to that coastal city of 89,000 people.
