However, the relaxations could come so long as “robust containment strategies” are implemented to prevent a second wave of infections, the statement added.

The states that could open as early as May 4 include Vermont, West Virginia, Montana and Hawaii. However, other states may need to wait until late June or early July. 

The same day, New York city Mayor Bill de Blasio announced more walk-in centers where New Yorkers can get tested for the coronavirus. The walk-up sites are expected to process at least 2,400 tests per week.
