Jeff Estes, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Deputy Police Chief, said the dead include a 7-year-old boy killed during a birthday party around 9 p.m. Saturday in a front yard in southwest Charlotte. Another child and two adults were wounded, but their injuries were not life threatening.

Three hours after the first shooting, two others took place in east Charlotte, killing 4 people and injuring three.

The motive of all 3 shootings remains under investigation.
