(VOVworld)-Over 690 thousand candidates across the country attending the first phase of the university and college entrance exams Thursday sat for their first subject - a 3-hour written mathematics exam in the morning.

Most exam councils in Hanoi reported compliance to the rules. Examinees said the mathematics questions were reasonable, closely following what they learned in high school. Hoang Chi Sy, a candidate for the National Academy of Public Administration said: “This year’s questions are as doable as last year’s, and contain some more difficult sections to select superior students. I have completed 70-75% of the questions.”

Over 6700 candidates showed up for the exam at the Tay Nguyen University, accounting for 85 percent of the registration dossier. Candidate Nguyen Thi Hue said: “The questions were not too difficult and think that the average student who carefully studied the text book could solve most of the questions. Both the candidates and the monitors were serious during  the exam.”

Inspectors from the Ministry of Education and Training led by Deputy Minister of Education and Training Bùi Văn Ga this morning visited two exam sites in Hanoi. Ga said: “Direct inspection by the Ministry’s steering board and other reports indicate that the tests were conducted in a proper manner. We have determined that the test strictly followed regulations set by the Ministry of Education and Training. The monitors were serious at the exam.  Candidates were working at their exam attentively and quietly.”

This afternoon, candidates take a 90-minute multiple-choice physics test.
