(VOVworld) – The Central Council for Amnesty Consultation says about 15,000 prisoners are expected to be pardoned on the occasion of the National Day, September 2. Cao Ngoc Oanh, Head of General Police Department for undertaking criminal sentences and judicial support, said the President’s decision on amnesty for this year has been carried out in a transparent, democratic and open manner: “We have a list of more than 15,000 inmates, who are eligible to be pardoned in compliance with the law. This figure is rather high although the criteria for this year’s amnesty remain strict because last year, we did not grant amnesty. We continue to review information related to amnesty so as to timely settle arising problems. We will also organize activities targeting the community, where the released prisoners will integrate in”.
