(VOVworld) - The death toll from the crash of an air force transport plane in the Indonesian city of Medan jumped to more than 140 on Wednesday, indicating a growing list of victims from the neighborhood where the plane went down.

The bodies were taken to Pekanbaru, the capital of Indonesia’s Riau province on Sumatra island, on Wednesday. Rescue officials confirmed at least 3 were victims on the ground. Armed forces spokesman Fuad Basha said Indonesia was exerting its greatest efforts in rescue work and emergency aid and will soon open a center to resolve the crisis and provide information on the situation. 8 remaining C-130Bs are not being used until the cause of the accident is known.
Vietnamese leaders sent their condolences over the incident to Indonesian leaders on Wednesday.
