The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum has unveiled an exhibition space for applied and folk arts to mark its 59th anniversary (June 24). This space is dedicated not only to the preservation but also the revitalization of traditional and applied arts in the contemporary era. Applied and folk arts include genres such as folk paintings and sculptures, and everyday items that reflect spiritual life, refined craftsmanship, creativity, national identity, and aesthetic values of Vietnamese culture. Applied art is deeply rooted in folk traditions shown in clothing, jewelry, musical instruments, weapons, household items, and ritual objects. Folk art revives memories of the past. More than just preserving traditional beauty, this space offers a convergence between the artistry of the past and the rhythm of modern life. Paintings, sculptures, and objects are now revived through digital technology, visual lighting, and meticulous storytelling. The golden glow of lacquer and the rough textures of ceramics can tell stories of the past. Together, folk and applied arts weave the vibrant tapestry of today’s fine arts. 3D mapping corners and interactive screens enhance visitor experience and improve access to information. The entire exhibition space—both traditional and contemporary—stands as proof of a museum renewing itself to remain in the hearts of the public.
