After Vietnam’s economy shifted to the market mechanism, between 1986 and 2000, industrial and imported wood products were abundant in the market while timber sources reduced. Bai Oi’s carpentry shrunk.

In 2010, Bac Giang province recognized Bai Oi’s carpentry craft village and help carpenters promote the trade.
