Luong Van Thu came from Thuong Tin, Hanoi to settle in Bai Oi commune 1958. He established the carpentry and involved local people in the craft.

Carpentry tools. During the subsidized period, Bai Oi’s wood products attracted a big number of customers due to good quality and reasonable prices. Many local carpenters travelled throughout the country to make wood furniture and build houses.

After Vietnam’s economy shifted to the market mechanism, between 1986 and 2000, industrial and imported wood products were abundant in the market while timber sources reduced. Bai Oi’s carpentry shrunk.

In 2010, Bac Giang province recognized Bai Oi’s carpentry craft village and help carpenters promote the trade.

It’s easy to recognize Bai Oi’s carpentry products by their plain but elegant, antique textures and pattern.
