When Nguyen Quang Trung, who lives in the My Dinh residential area of Hanoi comes home from work at 6 pm, he can immediately lie down on his sofa and listen to music because WeSmart, an app on his mobile phone, opens his gate and starts the music at the same time.
Before building his house, Trung had heard about smart home technologies, but found them unsuitable for elderly family members or young children. And all the instructions were in English.
So Trung chose WeSmart, a technology designed and made in Vietnam with instructions in Vietnamese.
He recalled that he heard of WeSmart by chance while talking with a friend about smart home solutions.
“The main reason I chose WeSmart is because it uses a different technology. Other products use Wi-Fi waves to control all the devices in the house, but WeSmart uses another kind of wave which is safer. This was one of the reasons I chose WeSmart. So far I’m satisfied with it,” Trung concluded.
The smart home concept was introduced to Vietnam more than a decade ago, when smart technologies allowed homeowners to control home devices with an Internet-connected mobile phone. Even before the homeowner arrives home, he can turn on or off lights, fans, air conditioners, and water heaters.
Smart home technology is developing very rapidly in Vietnam, with an increase in the number of smart home products and businesses.
The most popular smart home technology products are voice control systems, remote control via smartphone, power management systems, security systems, and energy saving systems. Smart home products are becoming widely used by Vietnamese families.
Large smart home projects are being implemented by Vinhomes, Gamuda City, Vingroup, and Richlane Residences.

Dr. Tran Khac Thac, Director of the WeSmart Smart Home Project of the WeSmart Trade and Service Development Company, said customers are interested in these projects because of their modern, safe, energy-saving amenities.
He said that since the Internet of Things was developed, it has been applied to all areas of life.
“We all know that as society develops, each family, each individual seems to have less time. So it’s good to maximize technologies to help us save more time and have more time to relax at home,” said Thac.
Although the smart home market is growing, there remain the challenges of limited human resources and high costs. To develop Vietnam’s smart home market sustainably will require overcoming these challenges.
The increasing demand for smart homes and the growth of the economy will drive the growth of the smart home market in Vietnam.
Dr. Thac said his company’s solution is to turn our home into a place where we can both relax and experience technological advancements.
“We can command any electric device in the house by our voice or by a few light touches on a smartphone. We can operate and control all activities in the house from anywhere. And we can use facial recognition technology to improve the security of each house,” said the WeSmart’s Director.
The development of the Internet, a full market economy, and international integration have helped Vietnamese consumers learn about, compare, and evaluate smart devices.
These factors have enabled domestic smart home businesses to sell “Make-in-Vietnam” products to more customers.
Vietnamese companies like BKAV, Lumi, and Javis have built on earlier scientific and technological achievements to turn out better Vietnamese-branded smart home solutions.
