More than 1,000 workers kept busy at Dung Quat Oil Refinery during the Tet holiday. Nguyen Hoai Giang, Director General of the Binh Son Petro-chemical Refinery Company, a subsidiary of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group said that to ensure the facility’s full capacity, the Company has had to maintain a round the clock operation before, during, and after Tet. Its goal is supply the market with 6 million tons of products worth 7.2 billion USD this year, according to Mr. Giang says ‘Elsewhere in Vietnam, work can stop temporarily during the Lunar New Year Festival, but it must run day and night at Dung Quat Oil Refinery. Production, seaport management, maintenance, and repair activities are never interrupted’.

When spring comes, the staff here and most other people who work in the Dung Quat Economic Zone celebrate Tet in their workplaces. Tran Van Danh, an employee of the Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Company says this was the fifth Lunar New Year he has voluntarily continued to work at the company. He shares his feeling ‘

There’s an exciting work atmosphere here in the early days of the Year of Dragon. The company leaders took care of us and gave us lucky money. We’ve determined to complete the building and launching of our contracted ships on schedule’

Nguyen Van Hoi, President of the Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Company, says the staff is committed to delivering a 100,000 DWT oil tanker, Vietnam’s largest ever vessel, by the end of March, and will immediately start on another 105,000 DWT oil tanker. Mr. Hoi talks about the company’s plan for this year ‘This year, we will continue to repair the Tam Dao Drilling Rig of Vietsopetro, a Vietnam-Russian Joint Venture, in addition to repairing oil tankers. As for building new ships, we will complete the construction of an oil tanker with a capacity of 105,000 DWT and build another service ship of 10,000 horsepower’.
