With some 50 seaports, Hai Phong is Vietnam’s second largest commercial port.

Its newest ports - Nam Hai-Dinh Vu, Vip Green Port, and Lach Huyen - have been upgraded to a modern scale, use of high-tech, and cargo handling capacity to accommodate super-large container ships.

According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, in the first nine months of 2021 536 million tons of goods went through Vietnam's seaports, and the volume of container cargo through Hai Phong increased more than 15%.

Hai Phong’s seaports are trying to catch up to the shipping industry’s global standard.

Seaports in Hai Phong have coordinated with shipping lines to form a closed transport chain connecting Hai Phong with Europe, America, India, and routes in Asia.

Hai Phong is cooperating with Maersk Line and Wanhai, the biggest names in the shipping industry.

Nguyen Dinh Tuan, the representative of Chinese Taipei’s Wanhai Lines in Vietnam, said the company is quite satisfied with the services offered by the port of Hai Phong.

“Hai Phong port always considers customer service its core business. This has helped its brand values for its production and trading,” said Tuan.       

Hai Phong is ranked among the top ports of Southeast Asia’s 500 seaports. Since its establishment with one wharf and two Tukal gantry cranes, the Tan Vu container terminal has grown to 5 wharfs equipped with up-to-date infrastructure and machines.

Hieu said, “The Tan Vu container terminal is the largest port in Hai Phong in wharf scale, equipment, and computer systems. This is our advantage. With determination and unanimity, we’ll continue to seek new markets to increase our output and revenues.”

The two container terminals in Lach Huyen, managed and operated by Hai Phong International Container Terminal, are capable of receiving container ships with a capacity of 14,000 TEU and vessels of up to 160,000 DWT.

Hai Phong port has been recognized as one of 20 seaports that can accommodate super-heavy ships.

Nguyen Tuong Anh, Director-General of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company, said a master plan for developing Vietnam's seaport system until 2030 with a vision to 2050 has been approved by the government.  

“The policies promulgated by the government and Hai Phong’s administration to attract investment and create an attractive business environment are open, ensuring that businesses and state management agencies can benefit from a favorable environment and administrative procedures. We strongly believe that Vietnam’s economy and exports will continue to grow. We estimate that the volume of goods through Hai Phong ports will increase 5 to 10% in the next few years,” said Tuong Anh.
