Vu Thanh Cong, a photographer and manager of an online tourism forum says that participants on his forum opened discussions on several topics and sharing experiences about and destinations for “phuot” or “adventurous” tourism. With his experience as a long time backpacking enthusiast, Cong often supplies detailed guides for every travel group. Favorite destinations for backpackers are Moc Chau- Son La, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Dong Van, and Meo Vac in the northwestern region. Each group is comprised of between 5 and 10 people and motorbikes are their main transportation means. There those who are interested in taking adventurous tours on zigzag roads, around elbow turns or climbing up steep hills. Cong  and the other members in his group are preparing motorbikes, walkie talkies, clothes and medicines for their trip to Y Ty- Lao Cai. According to Cong, each trip is an experience of life as they can explore nature, community life and practice their life skills. "I have traveled zigzaging and winding road to Y Ty in Lao Cai twice. You experience the thrill of adventure riding a motorbike on this somewhat dangerous road. I have taken many photos of this road", said Cong.

Thu Trang, a fashion company employee is also a member of Cong’s group. Despite her busy work, she manages to arrange 3 or 4 trips a year. Trang says backpacking tours bring her unforgettable experiences. During these trips, Trang does charitable activities helping disadvantaged and poor people. "The road to Y Ty Lao Cai is very difficult and Y Ty is also a disadvantaged region. During this trip, we will bring books for children to encourage them to study. We hope to gather information and share our experience with other members on the forum", said Trang.

Le Phu Loc, a central bank employee says whenever she has free time, she joins her group in adventurous tours and the northwestern region is one of her favorite destinations.Loc says: "A member in our group, who comes from Ho Chi Minh City says that touring the northwestern region is much different from Ho Chi Minh City. The landscape in the northwestern region is beautiful and the twisting roads to the hills are adventurous. Both the driver and the rider share the satisfaction of overcoming challenges".

Unfavorable weather like rain or wind do not discourage the backpackers to give up their trips. In fact these conditions add to the feeling of conquering challenges. Phan Son Hai has joined the backpacking tour for the first time to the Fansipan mount. "I have never had any chance to test myself with this sort of challenge and this trip was an interesting experience. The northwestern region is the most worthwhile destination to explore in the north", said Hai.

The road to the northwestern region is difficult and dangerous, so Trang and other members in her group have to prepare very carefully for the trip. "We have to prepare everything for the trip. Scarves, glasses and warm clothes are essential because we will go by motorbikes. We also prepare plastic booths and medicines as well as walkie-talkies so that we will not get lost", said Trang.

If you are a travel lover or backpacking fan, Vietnam’s northwestern region is a must see. The feeling of successfully conquering the difficult roads in the region will always be unforgettable experience.
