Phu Quoc Island, whose nickname is "Emerald”, captivates its visitors with the blend of the blue color of the sky and sea and green trees. North of the island, the Dai beach is equally charming. As its name suggests in Vietnamese, it is a long narrow untamed beach. A US News agency elected the Dai beach as one of the five most beautiful and cleanest beaches in the world. Phu Quoc isn’t juts for sea bathing. For example, Ham Ninh fishing village is an attractive destination as it still retains its authenticity. Local people earn their living from catching pearls and sea cucumber. The island of Phu Quoc is also famous for nuoc mam or fish sauce, the jewel of Vietnamese cuisine. It is made from a base of anchovies, a fish rich in protein and native to Phu Quoc. Fish sauce is extracted by pressing and filtering a brine (15 kg of salt to 100 kg of anchovies) that has macerated for 12 months in wooden vats. Watch your nostrils visiting a factory, the smell is potent! Dang Thi Gai, returning from Phu Quoc, said she was gratified by her journey: "I had the opportunity to see a fish sauce manufacturing company. They explained all the techniques and took me off to the sea. We had an opportunity to fish and eat our catch. The sea is beautiful. I loved this tour."
