28-year-old Ha Van Sang used to work far from his home village. He nurtured a plan to starthis own business on his family’s land for stable income.
After many years working and accumulating experience in other northern delta provinces, Sang decided to return to his hometown in 2020 to work. He has developed a garden, pond, and barn economic model and posted his daily life and work on social media networks. Videos of him doing farm work such as tending animals, watering the garden, and picking bamboo shoots in the forest posted on social networking platforms with English subtitle have attracted many more viewers.
Sang said he earns good profit from his farm model and interactions on social networks: “My startup model is quite new. I have a passion for technology and I buy equipment for filming, recording, and posting videos online. Before my startup project, I had researched a lot and learned from other people who were doing similar work.”

In 2022, Sang renovated his family's hilly land, invested in barns, enlarged the fish pond, and planted more fruit trees such as longan, mango, and macadamia. He also invested in cameras and computers to produce higher quality videos. Thanks to his relentless creativity and diligence, Sang's garden, pond and barn model now covers an area of over 5,000 square meters with 750 cattle and poultry, a fish pond, and 2,000 square meters of seasonal vegetables and fruits.
Sang runs his channels on Youtube and Tiktok, where he has over 200,000 subscribers and nearly 90,000 followers. He said he earns a monthly income of around 4,000 USD from the garden-pond-barn production, selling clean and nature-friendly products, and developing digital content on social networks.
«Since I earned a stable income, I’ve expanded and renovated my model with more ideas. I’m working to replicate the garden-pond-barn model in my home village and make good films for the audience. The digital content helps optimize my income,” Sang said.
Nguyen Tuan Anh, Deputy Secretary of Son La provincial Youth Union, said that in order to replicate Ha Van Sang's startup model, the Youth Union is promoting digital transformation to young people via programs such as the Journey to Cyberspace Connection, Gen Z Go Digital, and the Youth’s Mission of Prospering Culture in the Digital Age. Young people are supported in accessing and sharing accurate information, as well as taking advantage of digital platforms and social networks in socio-economic development and Youth Union’s activities.
“We are implementing practical programs and activities to help young people start their own business and create favorable conditions for them to promote their capacity and innovative ideas,” Tuan Anh said.
Ha Van Sang’s model has attracted young people inside and outside the district to come to learn good practices. The model has been chosen by Phu Yen district Youth Union to participate in the Rural Youth Startup Project Competition 2024.
