Throughout different periods of Vietnam’s revolution, generations of Vietnamese youths have demonstrated their patriotism in fighting for national independence, freedom and human happiness. A resolution of the 10th Party Central Committee on the Party’s leadership on youth affairs in national industrialization and modernization stresses that Vietnam’s youth are the backbone and future masters of the nation and the vanguard force in national construction and defense.

Vietnamese youths contribute to national defense

Amidst the challenges and complications of the world situation and the demands of national development, it’s important to enhance patriotism and self-reliance among young Vietnamese people, encourage them to be faithful to the ideology of national independence and socialism, and foster their revolutionary morality and capability. The Vietnam Youth Federation has over the years focused on strengthening solidarity, and guiding and helping young people to develop and contribute to national development. The Vietnam Youth Union has launched a campaign called “I love my homeland” for the 2014-2019 period, which, according to Nguyen Phi Long, Secretary of the Vietnam Youth Union and Vice President of the Vietnam Youth Federation,  is the impetus for this period: “Through this campaign, we want to unite young people of all ethnic groups and religions and encourage them to show their patriotism through their creativity and contributions to national construction and defense. The movement will unite young people of all classes, who are the masters and implementers of the movement”.

The movement hopes to get young people to show their patriotism by learning and sharpening themselves to become good, honest, responsible and self-reliant citizens. They need to be responsible to themselves, their families and society, exercise their vanguard role, voluntarism, and creativity to fulfill their duties and contribute to the homeland.

Young Vietnamese people love their homeland with practical activities

Young Vietnamese people have always been the vanguards of volunteer activities for the community. In past years, thousands of young people have voluntarily gone to rural, remote and island areas to implement programs of national industrialization and modernization. They have voluntarily set up businesses on Bach Long Vi and Con Co island, along the Ho Chi Minh trail and in border areas, and have participated in building youth parks on islands. They are aware of their vanguard role in national defense amidst the complications in the region and around the globe. Pham Vu Thu Trang is a student at the Vietnam Maritime University: “We were born after the country was unified, but we understand that our predecessors had to sacrifice their lives to wrest back national independence and territorial integrity. To make Vietnam rich from marine resources and ensure Vietnam’s sea and islands are inviolable, we need to do our best in studying and use our creativity to in science and technology to contribute to Vietnam’s marine economy. We are ready to continue the national tradition and are determined to defend national independence and territorial integrity”.

Young Vietnamese people show their love for Vietnam through the practical activities they perform for the community, their family and the homeland. Truong Hoang Tinh of Ho Chi Minh city told VOV before joining the army: “I’m joining the army because I think this is what a young Party member needs to do. In the army, I can sharpen myself to become a better and more useful person”.

With their love for the homeland, young Vietnamese people continue along their predecessors’ path in national construction and defense. They are committed to using their wisdom and creativity to contribute to the homeland.
