(VOVWORLD) - The Ministry of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs and the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Korea on Sunday provided consultations to Vietnamese guest workers in Gwangju city, about 300 km west of Seoul, and neighboring areas. This kind of gathering was first held last July in Incheon City.

Vietnamese and Korean agencies have cooperated closely over the past few years to support Vietnamese guest workers in the Republic of Koera. Many of these workers have returned home on schedule and established their own businesses or have continued working for Korean companies in Vietnam with their improved working skills and Korean language.

As part of efforts to help Vietnamese workers stabilize their lives after returning from Korea, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has organized counseling sessions for Vietnamese workers and offer them new job opportunities upon their return from Korea.

"Our Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has worked with related Korean agencies to take measures to minimize the number of workers overstaying in Korea after ending their contracts. Solutions include harsh punishments, stronger persuasions to return on schedule, and job opportunities for guest workers after their return", said Pham Viet Huong, Deputy Head of the Department of Overseas Labor of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Vietnam and the Republic of Korea renewed their agreement on Vietnamese guest workers in May last year. The agreement is valid until 2018. Consultations provided to these workers will help them understand their rights and responsibility to abide by local regulations.
